Description

The Infrastructure Services Department is seeking a Gardener to join their team.  The Gardener is responsible for a variety of horticultural, arboricultural and landscape maintenance tasks, including planting, plant cultivation and bed maintenance, turf maintenance, tree care and irrigation. They should have thorough knowledge of methods, practices, equipment use and maintenance. They should have exceptional ability to tactfully provide information to the public on park facilities and the ability to read landscaping layouts and contour maps for horticulture development.

The normal work week is 40 hours, with a variable schedule that could include evenings and weekends, as well as other duties as required such as assisting facilities employees in various building maintenance.

The preferred candidate will have completion of Grade 12 and related journeyman experience in Landscape Horticulture. The preferred candidate will have Journeyman Horticulturist or Arboriculturist Certification or equivalent diploma or certificate, a BC Driver’s Licence – Class 5 with a clean abstract, and clear criminal record check. A minimum two years’ experience in horticulture is required to fill this role, preferably in a municipal park setting. Knowledge of WorkSafe regulations is required with preference of a level 1 first aid certificate holder. The hourly rate of pay for this unionized position is $32.42 plus full comprehensive benefits package.
